And that is worth more than the awesome salad within.In a heartfelt announcement earlier today Chef Peggy Chan, founder and owner of Nectar announced the eatery was ceasing operating from December 27th onwards. They are a dying breed and they are willing to work for your patronage. But if you are leaving the park and want a place for a quick meal with a friendly atmosphere, consider cafe nectar and others like it. We don't want to drive these middle-ground restaurants to the extreme. So if you bring kids, try to only bring those who are well behaved. Our daughter sat quietly and took it all in. In a world where restaurants feel they need to either be "kid-friendly" or "enemy of the children" it's nice that there are still places occupying the less extreme middle ground. Though small (also, no restroom) it was bright and airy and the layout utilized every square inch without making you feel packed inside. Were this our neighborhood I can see myself popping in more frequently for a Sunday breakfast. So, we assured them that we were in our way out. But, we weren't there to linger and we had claimed entirely more real estate than we were entitled to because of the stroller. Though the staff looked a bit concerned for a moment, they didn't make an effort to rush us out. We finished eating and were ready for the check just two minutes before a large crowd came in looking to get a table. Just a subtle hint of anchovy let you know that this wasn't a place that decided to smother your lettuce in ranch dressing and Parmesan and hope you didn't know the difference. From the first bite you could tell this was done the right way. Many restaurants cheat on Caesar salads by going the route of bottled dressing. We also ordered a plate of grilled pita to help warm us up. In a city where a $13 salad can mean either big or (small and) pretty, I was pleased to see it was the former. Anyway, we just wanted something light since we had to attend a lunch after our upcoming function. ![]() Perhaps because we aren't the types to expect the world to shift to accommodate our kid, the other patrons were also very welcoming and hospitable despite the cramped quarters. ![]() Though small, the staff bent over backwards to help us stow a stroller and make us comfortable. As the wind was whipping us, my wife ducked into Nectar to see if they could accommodate us. ![]() We had a function to attend on the East Side in two hours and thought it would be a good time to grab some lunch and get the baby out of her stroller for a few minutes before we continued on. The temperature plummeted from nearly 50 to close to 30. She just woke up after a walk in the park. My wife and I are out walking our daughter in her stroller.
